Twitter likes to shit on Sleep Token because it sounds "too pop" and is "an insult to real metal" ("sleep token is to metal what imagine dragons is to rock"). I'm a little miffed but can't help but agree. Some of their songs are really corny.
One example of corniness on this album is "Are You Really Okay?". I hate it, and "hate" is a strong word. This song feels like it has no place in a metal/rock-focused album. I'd like it more if Sleep Token removed it from this album and sold the rights to it to Ed Sheeran. Same with "DYWTYLM", just a horrible way to name a song ("Do You Wish That You Loved Me" is still corny, but looks okay).
Despite all the negatives, I still love this album. Two favourites: "The Summoning" - the metal highlight - and "Aqua Regia" - the non-metal. It's true, "Aqua Regia" is not metal, but it's so fucking beautiful, it gets a pass. "The Summoning" is equally as good, though, because I don't listen to a lot of metal, the bar for "good" is pretty low. Take that as you will.
Minus 3 points because they're British.
